Butte College's SASP department is housed in the Center for Academic Success (CAS). Student Athletes are encouraged to enroll in the EDUC 310 FREE course each semester. This allows our students to access our SASP director, study in the SASP room, tutorial support, and complete Critical Skills Workshops.
The goal is for these student athletes to internalize positive study habits that will result in a successful academic future while at Butte and after they transfer.
SASP Program Supervisor
Wally Funk currently serves as the SASP Program Supervisor and is responsible for tracking study hall activities, providing individual guidance with academic work, making referrals for tutoring support, following up with students and acting as a liaison to the coaching staffs, professors, and the athletic department.
Coach Funk understands the unique pressures and expectations that surround student athletes as they work toward success both academically and in their chosen sport. The SASP program is a supportive atmosphere for the two hundred student athletes who spend their time in CAS each semester.
Coach Funk can be found in his office inside CAS and spends a minimum of twenty-four hours each week working directly with the student athletes.
